Getting Started:If this is your first time making a giclee, you are probably wondering where to get started and how long the process takes. We hope that this section will answer all of your questions. There are three primary steps you need to take in order to get a giclee print: 1. "Digitize" your original art via either photography or scanning. 2. "Proofing" (which is optional). 3. "Printing" your giclees.
Painters (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and pencil): Will need to either scan or photograph your artwork.
Photographers and Digital Artists: All that you need to do is fill out the order form and upload your images via our upload section.
Step #1. We will need a digital file of your artwork. We accept the most common image file types: JPG's, TIF's, PSD's, PDF's. We do not work with RAW or Adobe Illustrator files, so please convert them to either TIF's or JPG's first. If you already have an image file, when you are ready to order, please upload it to us via our upload page. If you do not have a file from which to print, your options are either to scan or photograph your work. Picture Salon can "digitize" your artwork by scanning and/or photographing it. For an all-inclusive fee, we will copy, color-correct to match to the original and save a copy of the final, edited images on a CD. Our prices for scanning are determined by the size of the original in square feet. Please see our scanning rates on our giclee price page. For do-it-your selfers, read here how to digitally capture your artwork.
Step #2. Proofing: You may want to proof your work first before making a final print. We strongly recommend proofing your photograph or artwork if: a. It is of an original painting (i.e. watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel) or it is a photograph that has very critical colors. b. If you are planning on placing a large order of prints of the same or multiplr images. Digital Art and Photography does generally not require proofing. However, we will recommend proofing if we feel that you will not be happy with the final print. The cost of proofing ranges from $10.50 to $35 per image. More information on our different proofing choices. Proofing generally takes 3-4 days from the start. If the proofs are canvas, allow for an extra day since we spray them witht he final coating.
Step #3. Printing: Once an order is received (or proofing process has been completed), the printing process itself generally takes from 3 - 5 days. Paper prints are usually ready to ship in 3 - 4 days. Canvas orders can take 4 - 5 days to complete. The volume of prints that we are producing at the time of your order can vary and may also affect turnaround time. Picture Salon reserves the right to charge a "rush" fee for orders that fall outside of our normal turnaround time. We will notify you in advance of any such fees. |
