Getting Started:

1. We will need a digital file of your artwork.

In order to make a giclee print, we need a digital image.

2. If you do not have a digital image.

We can scan or photograph your original artwork or you can do it yourself by relying on a local resource.

If you are reproducing original artwork, but do not yet have a digital file, read here how to digitally capture your artwork.

3. You may need to proof your work before making a final print.

We strongly recommend proofing your artwork if:

a. It is of an original painting (i.e. watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel).

b. If you are planning on placing a large order of prints of the same image.

Digital Art and Photography does generally not require proofing. However, we will recommend proofing if we feel that you will not be happy with the final print.

Proofing Takes Approximately One Week After We Receive Your Electronic File

The cost of proofing ranges from $10.50 to $35 per image. We do not charge a "set-up" fee.

The Proofing Process:

1. Once we receive your file (or scan your original), we will print either a "single" or "double" or a "match" proof of the full image (at a reduced size) and a detail (at full size) and mail it to you.

The advantage of a "double" proof is that if we don't have your original work as a reference, it saves time and improves the chance that you will see a version that you like.

Once you receive your proof, compare it to your original art and contact us by phone or email for feedback. It is not necessary to return the proofs.

2. After the proof is approved, we will print your final order and mail it to you. Paper prints generally are ready to ship in 1-2 days. Canvas orders take 3-4 days.

Picture Salon reserves the right to charge a "rush" fee for orders that fall outside of our normal turnaround time. We will notify you in advance of any such fees.

Proofing:

Proofing is a one-time fee.

It is highly recommended that you have us proof when reproducing original artwork and for large orders.

Once the proofs are ready, they are mailed to you for approval. The timeframe is generally one week.

1. Single Proof - $10.50 per image - An inexpensive way to check your image quality before going to final print.

We will print your original file only. Incudes an approx. 4" x 5" print of the entire image and a detail at the final size.

If you do not like the proof, we will print another adjusted version for an additional $10.50 or, you may want to opt for the double proof in order to save time.

2. Double Proof - $18.50 per image - We print your original file along with an adjusted version that we feel in some way improves the quality of your image.

The advantage of this proof is that, if either one of the proofs looks fine to you, we can finish printing your order within a matter of days.

3. Match Proof - up to $35.00 per image -A "match" proof refers to an instance where either we have scanned a transparency or negative or you have provided us with a digital file and along with it a "match" print to adjust the colors.

Correcting any digital file to match a print made using a printer other than our own is perhaps the most challenging proofing task. That is because no two printers print alike.

Proofing Examples:

Single Proof - We print your original file only. Includes an approximately 4x5 sized print of the full image and a smaller print of the image at full size to check on the detail and resolution.

Double Proof - We print your original file and an adjusted version for comparison. Ideally, one of the two versions will be acceptable.
